The Strait of Malacca is a marine strait. It links the Andaman Sea and the Java Sea, and separates Malaya and Sumatra. It is about 800 km long. Most parts are between 50 kilometres (31 mi) and 300 kilometres (190 mi) wide. At its narrowest point, it is only 1.5 nautical miles (2.8 km; 1.7 mi) wide. At its shallowest point it is about 25 metres (82 ft) deep.
