The Flame nebula, also known as NGC 2024, is a nebula in the constellation Orion. It has no well defined edge. It is about 900 to 1,500 light-years away.

The nebula is part of the Orion complex. This is a star-making area that also has the famous Horsehead nebula in it. The bright star Alnitak (ζ Ori), the most eastern star in the Belt of Orion, shines a glow of electrons into the Flame nebula. view more...
